Technical Reference
The Technical Reference explains how Now Playing works under the hood. It is intended for curious users, power users, and integrators who want to understand what happens between the moment a track loads in DJ software and the moment an overlay updates on a stream.
Sections
Section titled “Sections”- Concepts — the core ideas: data flow, play detection, on-air scoring, track enrichment, and how outputs are fanned out.
- Infrastructure — system requirements, cloud topology, failover, and where data is stored.
- Integrations — how Now Playing talks to each supported DJ application, protocol, and hardware interface.
- Accounts & Security — user accounts, guest mode, overlay tokens, and subscriptions.
- Platform — desktop app behavior, updates, and headless operation.
Who This Is For
Section titled “Who This Is For”If you are setting up Now Playing, start with the Getting Started guide instead. The Technical Reference is for when you want the why and the how, not the what to click.
If you are integrating with Now Playing or building custom overlays, the Integrations and Concepts sections will be most useful.
