Dashboard

The Now Playing dashboard is your central hub for managing everything outside of the desktop app. You can access it at app.nowplayingapp.com from any browser (no installation required). Sign in with the same account you used in the desktop app and you’ll have full access to your account, overlays, history, and settings.

The dashboard works on desktop and mobile browsers, though the full experience is best on a desktop or laptop screen where you can see live previews clearly.

Dashboard Overview

Now Playing uses two separate interfaces with distinct responsibilities. Understanding which interface handles which task saves time when you’re looking for a specific setting.

The dashboard uses a top navigation bar with tabs:

  • Home: Live view of the current track and system status
  • Settings: Track sources, destinations, on-air detection, and general preferences
  • Overlays: Configure your browser-source overlay appearance and URL
  • History: Full playback history, searchable and exportable
  • Help: Documentation (opens in a new tab)

On smaller screens, the navigation collapses into a hamburger menu icon. Your account avatar and sign-out option appear in the top-right corner of the header.

The Home tab is the first screen you see when you open the dashboard. It gives you an at-a-glance view of your entire system status in one place.

The top card shows the track currently being broadcast. This includes:

  • Track title and artist name
  • Album name (when available from your DJ software or enrichment services)
  • Album artwork (sourced automatically when available)
  • Time detected: how long ago this track was picked up

This view updates in real time as you play new tracks. If the desktop app is offline or no source is connected, this card shows a disconnected state.

Below the current track, a status indicator shows whether the desktop app is connected to the Now Playing cloud service. The states are:

StatusMeaning
Connected (green)Desktop app is online and broadcasting
Connecting (yellow)Desktop app is attempting to reconnect
Disconnected (red)Desktop app is offline or not running
No source (grey)Desktop app is connected but no track source is configured

The Overlays tab is where you configure your browser-source overlay: the visual display that appears in your stream.

Your account has a single overlay URL. Copy it from the Your Overlay URL card and add it as a Browser Source in OBS. The overlay updates automatically whenever Now Playing detects a new track.

  1. Copy your overlay URL from the Overlays page (click the copy icon next to the URL field).
  2. Open OBS Studio.
  3. In your Sources panel, click the + button and choose Browser.
  4. Paste the overlay URL into the URL field.
  5. Set the width and height to match the recommended size shown next to the URL (this varies by theme).
  6. Click OK.

Use the Choose Theme dropdown to select a visual style. Each theme has a different layout and a recommended size. After selecting a theme, use the Display Options toggles to control whether artwork is shown, whether content is right-aligned, and which direction transitions animate.

Some themes also expose additional color and typography options under Customize Theme.

Click Test Animation to send a sample track to the overlay and preview how it looks before you go live. The live preview in the left column updates immediately.

The Settings tab covers all configuration for sources, destinations, and preferences. It uses a sidebar to navigate between sections.

The Sources section shows each supported track source and lets you enable or configure it. Enable the sources that match your DJ software and hardware setup.

Destinations are the places Now Playing sends your track data beyond the overlay. Available destinations include:

  • File output: Writes current track info to a text file on disk, readable by other streaming tools
  • Twitch Chat: Automatically posts the current track to your Twitch chat
  • Discord: Posts track updates to a Discord channel via webhook
  • Webhooks: Posts track data as JSON to any URL you specify
  • LumiaStream: Sends track data to LumiaStream for light integrations
  • MIDI Clock: Outputs MIDI clock sync based on the detected BPM

Configure how Now Playing determines which deck is currently on-air. See On-Air Detection in this guide for full details.

Configure rules that clean up track metadata before it is broadcast, such as stripping unwanted prefixes or normalizing artist name formatting.

The General settings page covers appearance (theme), the setup wizard, and (when in the desktop app) automatic updates and factory reset.

The Subscription page shows your current plan and provides access to upgrade options and the billing portal.

The History tab shows every track that has been broadcast through your account, organized by session and date. See the Track History section of this guide for full details on searching, filtering, and exporting.

The Help tab opens this documentation in a new browser tab.
